useless made useful…

obsolete and sad…

Himself and I bought this television armoire about 20 years ago.  It is part of a bedroom suite though we haven’t used it in the bedroom in years.  It’s really just much too large to fit in our small bedroom. For several years we kept a very poorly fitting television in it in the living room.  When I decided I no longer wanted a television in the living room, I began asking around for anyone that wanted a 90’s t.v. armoire.  Sadly I found, I couldn’t give the thing away!!  Big new flat screens do not fit in it at all and the entire upper half of the cabinet was all set up for an older style t.v.  Was getting ready to put it on the curb for somebody to have for free when I took the notion to re-purpose it into a useful cabinet for my pretty linens; table clothes, quilts, napkins etc….Himself removed all the television fixtures out of it; a swiveling shelf, and an electrical plug in thingy.  He then had a few new shelves

useful and beautiful once again.

cut.  He stained them and drilled tiny holes for the little pegs to hold the shelves.  I covered a big piece of foam core with a piece of brown cloth and pressed it into the back to cover the giant hole that was cut out there to accommodate the big thick 90’s television . I took all of my linens out of a dresser I had them stored in.  Moved that to basement to store other things , and put my wonderful, useful old/new armoire into my dining room.  Love, love, love it!!  I use the bottom large drawer to keep winter hats, gloves, scarves, etc in so the entire thing is pretty as well as useful and I didn’t have to give away part of the original set.

Update 29 June 2020

The transformation of the armoire was made complete by replacing the wood panels on the doors with beautiful decorative glass. This changes it from a big brown blob in the room to a pretty piece of furniture in which the colorful contents are visible.  I love how it turned out!!
