I’ve had a typical oak dining room set from the 1990’s since it was new. For many years, it has done the job. Countless family dinners, lunches, breakfast, snacks. Jigsaw puzzles, card games, sewing and craft projects. Though sadly out of style, it’s an old friend that quietly keeps many memories; most good but a few not so good too. During covid quarantine, among countless other projects, we began a slow replacement of the chairs around the oak table. We had a couple very old and very decrepit chairs in our attic. Starting with those, Himself, did the arduous job of putting them back together in a more or less acceptable state. He then painted them the same pretty color of red and I recovered the seats with a nice red and white stripped cloth I got from the Laura Ashley website. So far, so good. Going for the same /different look for my dining chairs. But 2 chairs were not enough. I needed at least 2 more. Found one as we drove back roads early on a Saturday morning. At first Himself refused to retrieve a piece of junk as he saw it, but I coaxed him into it. This sturdy chair needed no repair. Just a paint job. However, instead of doing the cushion myself, I sent it to an excellent upholsterer here in colo spgs. They also did my old rescue upholstered rocking chair that I wrote about in another post. The seat came out so nice and cushy and the fabric so nice and taught, it was really worth the small fee to get it done professionally. The last chair, I came across as I drove downtown with a toddler in the backseat. It was sitting in a driveway with a free sign on it but was super difficult to get to. Involved several turn arounds and backtracking. Then when I finally had it safe in my car, was a really tough road to back out onto. but, voila!! Another pretty chair to complete my set of 4!! Once again, a little repair work, a little paint, and a trip to the upholsterers for a nice new seat. Now, I have a fun new look for my dining room for very little cost.
